Backlist: The Monster's Scribbler

Something heavy slammed into Phoebe, knocking her free of the grip.

“No!” Becka’s scream echoed through the pavilion. “The story isn’t worth it. I don’t want it. I want this nightmare to end.”

The lake churned and bubbled ferociously like boiling water.

Terrified Phoebe stared. She knew she should run, but her legs weren’t getting the message her brain was sending.

Out of the depths of the lake, rose the monster that had injured Phoebe’s shoulder and plagued her dreams. It did not glide smoothly out of the murky depths. It dug and clawed its way through the water like a vampire or a zombie digging its way out of a dirt-filled grave. The flesh clinging to the bony limbs stretched under the weight of the waters, making the putrid flesh ooze and drip even more than it did in Phoebe’s nightmares. New exposed white bones glowed in the moonlight. The tattered remains of clothes barely hung on the gaunt frame approaching the shore.

Phoebe could not do anything but stare at it.

The monster stepped into the soft twinkling light of the pavilion. Its face was little more than a skull with patches of rotting flesh clinging to it. The eyes—the eyes were not there. Two large dark holes marked the spot, but deep in their depths, small, blood red embers glowed.

Phoebe tried screaming but nothing came out of her mouth. Wide-eyed and shaking, her legs started working and she backed away from the monster-filled pavilion.

Just a Quick Update

I finished the base outline for book 4 in the Children of Atlantis series. Now, I'm going back through it to add the details and fix any plot holes.  I want to have all the problems fixed before I start writing. This makes the writing process easier and a lot more fun.

I've also come up with some base ideas for books 5 -7. I'm excited and can't get the ideas down on paper fast enough. Sometimes I wish I could plug my brain to the computer and upload the whole story. Yes, the story is in my head. I can hear it. I can see it. I just have to write it. LOL.

If you follow me on Instagram, you've already seen this. This is the cover page for May in my bullet journal. The month is already filling up with things I have to do and things I want to accomplish.

Have a great week!

Update on the Changes

Changes are coming.

I've been working on the new cover designs. So far, I'm very pleased with them, and I think you will like them. I still need to reformat the interiors for both the ebooks and the paperbacks. In the next few weeks, I will start planning and then executing the relaunch of the Children of Atlantis series.

I'm also finishing the outline for book four in the series. Which means, I'm actually ahead of schedule and will start writing the story very soon. I've already changed the title for a second time, so that's why I haven't released it yet.

I've also started the outline for book five.

Good things are coming.

Making Iced Lattes

I really love coffee.

You could probably say that I have a slight addiction problem. In winter I drink a lot of hot coffee, but when it comes to hot Texas summer days, I love iced coffee. The only problem is that the iced coffee habit can get expensive.

Last summer, I learned how to make my own iced coffees.

First, I bought a simple, cheap cold brew pot. A cold brew pot is designed to brew coffee in the refrigerator. The pot I bought was a simple clear, heavy-duty plastic pitcher with a lid that fits tightly on it. The center of the lid has a  place to insert the filter basket that came with it. All you do is fill the filter basket with your favorite ground coffee and then fill the pitcher with water (I use the filtered water from the refrigerator) and put the pot into the refrigerator to cold-brew for about 24 hours.

The next day I pour some of the cold-brewed coffee into a large cup (about 8 ounces or 1 cup). I add a little sweetener. It's up to you what kind of sweetener you want to use and how much--basically who sweet do you want your drink or how many calories.

Now you are to the point where you decide what flavorings you want to add. I'm currently on a mocha kick. So at this point I add a little chocolate syrup and mix. I then add about 8 ounces or 1 cup of milk, stir, add some ice, and enjoy.

And in my case, I have an iced mocha latte.

The cool thing is you can add any flavor you want to the cold coffee. Sometimes I add vanilla flavoring (vanilla extract is what I use) or a salted caramel flavoring instead of chocolate syrup.
The kinds of flavors you can try is endless or you can make the iced coffee without added flavors. The grocery stores now carry a lot of bottles of different flavorings on the coffee aisle.

For me, the best part of this is that I can control the sweetness of the drink and it costs a lot less in the long run.

What kind of coffee drinks or other drinks do you like to indulge in?

New Looks and New Books

In case you haven't noticed, I've started making changes to my blog. I've given it a new look and have started updating pages.

This is just the beginning of several changes I'm making.

Over the next few months, the Children of Atlantis series will get a new look. I'm working on new covers for both the ebooks and the paperbacks. I'm also looking at expanding where you can buy them.

During April, I will be working on outlining books 4 and 5. I also have ideas for books 6 and 7.
Yes, there will be a new book out this year, and yes there will be several more books in the series. I will be focusing my writing on my Atlantis series and over the next year there will be new books added to this series.

I'm also putting together a list of ideas for blogs. If there is something you're interested in hearing about, leave a suggestion in the comments below.

What I'm Currently Doing...

I am currently listening to Texas Flip N Move and other home shows. I've got the television going as background noise while I write.

I am eating lots of salads, proteins and fruits. I'm working on cutting carbs because they, especially processed foods that are high in carbs, cause a lot of problems with my sugar levels. I've worked hard to get my blood sugar levels into a normal range and I want to keep them there.

I am drinking lots of water and lots of water, and coffee.

I am wearing a lot of long sleeved shirts, sweatpants, and warm socks. We've had an unusual cold spell here in Texas. The temperatures for several days were at or below freezing for the high. We are finally getting back into the fifties.

I am feeling a little sad. Christmas break is almost over which means time to go back to school. But I am excited about the new year and the idea of new beginnings.

I am wanting to finish getting my new planner organized. I decided to go with a disc bound planner this year. I'm actually combining several different planners together to create one by taking the current two months out of the planners I bought and putting them into one and I'm adding in a few of bullet journal layouts because with the disc system, I can easily add paper.

I am thinking about the stories I plan to write this year and am jotting down the ideas so that I can go back and create outlines.

I am enjoying my vacation/break from school and being able to work on the project I want to work on.

It's a time for new start and the first thing I'm doing is setting some goals.

  • Create a writing schedule.
  • Write 3 books this year.
  • Post blogs on a regular basis.
  • Walk more.
  • Eat more protein, fruit and veggies and eat less processed foods.
  • Declutter and organize my stuff.
I hope everyone has a wonderful new year!
