Unfortunately, no fireworks this year. Thank you, COVID.

Like many of you, Mr. C and I stayed home. He grilled some shrimp and beef bites. I made a new rub too. It's a little spicy and a little sweet.

One of the things I've learned from making rubs, is to blend together the flavors you like. If you don't like the flavors, you're not going to like the rub.

Here is the base recipe for my new rub (Yes, I'm sharing!)

1/4 cup of your favorite Cajun spice mix

1/8 cup granulated garlic

1/4 cup of paprika

1/2 cup brown sugar

Mix all together and put into an empty shaker.

After you mix these ingredients, taste it. If it's not exactly the way you want it, add a little more of one of the mixes. I didn't add salt to this mix because the Cajun mix I used already had salt in it. We sprinkled this on half of the shrimp and half of the beef bites. And yes, everything was eaten.

This week is the first week of the 3rd quarter. Honestly, I'm glad 2nd quarter is over with, because it was not fun. First, I and all the other teachers in Texas, as well as around the country, moved to on-line teaching and finished out the school year this way. I was in an auto accident. I'm good. The safety features in the car kept me safe, but the car was declared a total loss. Mr. C had a had some heart issues. Twice we were in the hospital overnight. Yes, I stayed with him.

It's kind of funny, but I bought my teacher planner back in June, and it's sitting on the shelf. Some journeys are tough, while others are easy. Sometimes we reach our intended destination, and other times we end up at an uncharted destination.
Some doors open to small changes, and others to life-altering changes.

My first week of summer break has been spent packing. I'm moving this week. Mr. C has a new job, so that means we are moving out of the staff housing that we had due to his old job. So in a couple of days, it will be goodbye to San Marcos and hello to New Braunfels. I'm looking at this move as a new beginning. New home. New neighborhood. New office for me to set up.

New beginnings are a good thing!

A few weeks ago, I started writing the first chapter of Oracle of Atlantis, book 5 in the Children of Atlantis series. I wasn't quite happy with the outline, so I stopped writing and re-outlined the entire book. I love the way the story has turned out! As soon as the move is over, I will dive into writing the story.

Several of my students have asked me about how many books I plan to write in this series. (For those of you who don't know, I teach history and speech at a local junior high school.) I have ideas for about five more books, counting Oracle of Atlantis. I've started working on the outline for book 6, Deceptions of Atlantis. As I write Oracle, I'll jot down notes for the other stories.

Last September, I released Plague of Ares in ebook only. After the move, I will format a paperback version and release it.

I've been tossing some ideas around and would like your opinion.

I actually have a YouTube channel, but have not done anything with it. I'm thinking about filming some vlogs on writing and other stuff. Would you be interested? What kind of content would you be interested in?

I'm also thinking about starting a Street Team. Is this something you would be interested in participating?

Have a great day!

Now, I'm going back through it to add the details and fix any plot holes. I want to have all the problems fixed before I start writing. This makes the writing process easier and a lot more fun.

I've also come up with some base ideas for books 5 -7. I'm excited and can't get the ideas down on paper fast enough. Sometimes I wish I could plug my brain to the computer and upload the whole story. Yes, the story is in my head. I can hear it. I can see it. I just have to write it. LOL.

I've been working on the new cover designs. So far, I'm very pleased with them, and I think you will like them. I still need to reformat the interiors for both the ebooks and the paperbacks. In the next few weeks, I will start planning and then executing the relaunch of the Children of Atlantis series.

I'm also finishing the outline for book four in the series. Which means, I'm actually ahead of schedule and will start writing the story very soon. I've already changed the title for a second time, so that's why I haven't released it yet.

I've also started the outline for book five.

Good things are coming.

You could probably say that I have a slight addiction problem. In winter I drink a lot of hot coffee, but when it comes to hot Texas summer days, I love iced coffee. The only problem is that the iced coffee habit can get expensive.

Last summer, I learned how to make my own iced coffees.

First, I bought a simple, cheap cold brew pot. A cold brew pot is designed to brew coffee in the refrigerator. The pot I bought was a simple clear, heavy-duty plastic pitcher with a lid that fits tightly on it. The center of the lid has a place to insert the filter basket that came with it. All you do is fill the filter basket with your favorite ground coffee and then fill the pitcher with water (I use the filtered water from the refrigerator) and put the pot into the refrigerator to cold-brew for about 24 hours.

The next day I pour some of the cold-brewed coffee into a large cup (about 8 ounces or 1 cup). I add a little sweetener. It's up to you what kind of sweetener you want to use and how much--basically who sweet do you want your drink or how many calories.

Now you are to the point where you decide what flavorings you want to add. I'm currently on a mocha kick. So at this point I add a little chocolate syrup and mix. I then add about 8 ounces or 1 cup of milk, stir, add some ice, and enjoy.

And in my case, I have an iced mocha latte.

The cool thing is you can add any flavor you want to the cold coffee. Sometimes I add vanilla flavoring (vanilla extract is what I use) or a salted caramel flavoring instead of chocolate syrup.
The kinds of flavors you can try is endless or you can make the iced coffee without added flavors. The grocery stores now carry a lot of bottles of different flavorings on the coffee aisle.

For me, the best part of this is that I can control the sweetness of the drink and it costs a lot less in the long run.

What kind of coffee drinks or other drinks do you like to indulge in?
I've given it a new look and have started updating pages.

This is just the beginning of several changes I'm making.

Over the next few months, the Children of Atlantis series will get a new look. I'm working on new covers for both the ebooks and the paperbacks. I'm also looking at expanding where you can buy them.

During April, I will be working on outlining books 4 and 5. I also have ideas for books 6 and 7.

Yes, there will be a new book out this year, and yes there will be several more books in the series. I will be focusing my writing on my Atlantis series and over the next year there will be new books added to this series.

I'm also putting together a list of ideas for blogs. If there is something you're interested in hearing about, leave a suggestion in the comments below.
